Soft, crunchy cookie bars in red and gold colors are sure to please true Chiefs fans. Shall we try making some?

Ingredients:

Note that all ingredients should be room temperature, especially the butter and egg.

  • 200 g butter (softened)
  • 180 g brown sugar (you can substitute regular sugar, but brown sugar adds caramel notes)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 250 g flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 100 g white chocolate
  • 100 g red and gold M&M’s (or other colored chocolate dragees)

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).  Take a rectangular mold grease it with butter or cover it with parchment paper to prevent the bars from sticking.
  2. Beat the butter with the sugar for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is light and airy, add the egg and vanilla.

It’s important to remember that if the butter is too cold, it won’t mix with the sugar as it should, and if it’s too melted, the batter will be too runny.

  1. Mix together the flour and baking soda and slowly add to the butter mixture, stirring with a spatula
  2. Stir in the white chocolate chunks and M&M’s, leaving some candy for decoration on top.
  3. Spread the batter over the mold, flatten with a spoon or spatula. Add the remaining M&M’s on top, pressing them lightly into the batter
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the edges are golden and the center is still slightly soft.  Let the dessert cool in the mold for 30-40 minutes.

Cut into rectangles and lay the bars out on kraft paper or a wooden board. This way they will look nice and homemade. Serve with a milkshake or cocoa.
