1. Lavender Has Cleansing and Purifying Abilities

This is a biggie!

The ability to cleanse a space of negativity is among the chief reasons I use Lavender in smudging. Its leaves are well-known to dissipate any heavy feelings you may be having lately.

If you are a fan of the spiritual side of smudging, you can smudge with Lavender to protect your space or home from adverse energies too. After all, Lavender’s primary spiritual meanings include cleansing, balancing, and purification.

I’ll be honest – I don’t use smudging like that. I use it more for mindfulness – but whatever floats your boat!

A friend told me that after they’d smudged with Lavender they noticed the attraction of positive energy back into their life. You can achieve happiness, calmness, and tranquility after Lavender smudging as well.

2. Lavender Helps Treat Sleeping Disorders

Many studies have proved Lavender’s undeniable effect on our nervous system. As such, they’ve concluded that the leaves and oil of this plant can help treat multiple sleep disorders.

Aromatherapy experts recommend Lavender as the top plant you should use if you suffer from constant restless nights. Inhaling Lavender’s beautiful scent can ease you into a night of deep rest in only 30 minutes.

More interestingly, the same study further found that Lavender has a therapeutic effect on the mind, aiding in its relaxation and protecting it from some neurological disorders. Not just that, but Lavender can also help reduce the symptoms of some disorders (we’ll dive into details later).

3. Lavender Boosts Memory Retention

Speaking of Lavender’s effect on your cognitive abilities, did you know that smudging with this purple plant can help boost memory retention?

That’s right! A few studies showed that inhaling Lavender efficiently improves visual and mental memory in the short term. As a result, it’s perfect for those having trouble focusing or concentrating on tasks for too long.

Lavender’s ability to help clear your mind could be because of the plant’s sedative and stabilizing characteristics. So, use your Lavender smudge stick to cleanse yourself before vital study sessions.

4. Stabilizes Mood Swings

We mentioned briefly that Lavender has stabilizing properties—and it does. A number of studies, including the one I talked about earlier, proved that the Lavender scent excels at stabilizing mood swings.

Not just that, but the smell of Lavender can also help replace negative, dull feelings with content, relaxed, and happy ones.

You can smudge with lavender to uplift feelings of depression, anxiety, or sadness.

Multiple small studies back up this data as well. They conclud that due to lavender’s direct effect on neurological functions, lavender-based aromatherapy strongly boosts your mood.

Next time you’re feeling blue, make sure you have some lavender on hand to burn.

5. Lavender Can Cure Headaches and Migraines

A few studies found that Lavender is an excellent migraine and headache reliever. Some have found that inhaling the plant in any form can help greatly in reducing the painful effects of headaches.

On top of that, some have found that lavender fumes or its natural scent can both cut down on the frequency and duration of your migraines in the long run. So, lavender smudging is worth trying!

6. Heals Joint and Muscle Pain

Lavender has analgesic as well as anti-inflammatory properties. Both elements make the plant perfect for healing joint and muscle pain.

In fact, studies show that massaging some Lavender oil on your aching knees and other joints helps alleviate the pain.

Other studies show that inhaling Lavender can also help patients with arthritis.

7. Treats Multiple Skin and Fungal Diseases

Lavender is known to exhibit some of the following characteristics:

  • It is antifungal
  • It is antimicrobial
  • It has antioxidant characteristics as well.

As such, studies have tried to use the plant for medicinal purposes, specifically for treating skin ailments and fungal diseases.

One study proved that lavender effectively kills a facial type of bacteria, particularly the one that causes eczema.

Another study concluded that lavender’s antifungal abilities can terminate multiple fungi strains.

8. Regulates Nervous Disorders

Being neuroprotective, anxiolytic, and anti-conclusive (able to control a brain’s abnormal electrical activity) are yet other properties that Lavender has.

Just smelling it can help regulate many mental and nervous disorders.

Those vary from depression and anxiety to PTSD and ADD. Interestingly, some studies have found that even postpartum mothers can use lavender’s calming scent to alleviate their symptoms.

9. Improve Blood Circulation

Improving blood circulation and HRV (heart rate variability) are two of Lavender’s most redeeming qualities yet.

studies conclude that inhaling Lavender has a consistent, short-term effect on strengthening your heart’s circulation and pumping rate.

Further, the same study revealed that Lavender can help lower blood pressure and reduce body temperature if necessary too.

10. Clear up Respiratory Problems

Lavender aids in curing multiple respiratory problems because of the aforementioned properties the plant exhibits. For example, one study deemed that lavender aromatherapy is effective in fighting against COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).

Another study found that inhaling Lavender can also help treat or at least alleviate asthma-induced symptoms.

11. Attracts Love and Abundance

Traditionally, lavender is associated with eternal love and/or love at first sight.

The Bible even mentions lavender several times, referring to purity, love, loyalty, and devotion.

Due to its vibrant purple color, lavender is also believed to attract abundance, elegance, grace, and luxury.

Many people believe that smudging with lavender leaves will invite loving energy, calmness, and serenity into your life.

Here’s some fun trivia too:

Cleopatra famously (and allegedly) used lavender-scented perfume to seduce and attract men. Evidently, it worked on both Julius Caesar and Mark Antony.

12. Lavender is believed by some to be a spiritual plant

For those that believe in the spiritual side of smudging, lavender has many purposes. Among the chief ones are the following:

  • Opening the third eye
  • Unblocking the heart chakra
  • Improving clairvoyance

I have to admit, I never think about this during my own smudging sessions. But let’s take each of these issues one at a time:

Opening the Third Eye

Some believe that an unbalanced or blocked third eye can cause cognitive difficulties, including migraines and an inability to focus.

Inhaling lavender helps with such issues, and, so many believe, can also help open your third eye.

Unblocking the Heart Chakra

Use Lavender smudging to unblock your heart chakra because its scent calms and relaxes the mind, allowing for love and acceptance to enter your body.

Besides the heart chakra, smelling lavender can also open up your crown chakra too. The latter focuses on intuition and knowing.

As such, lavender smudging might aid in honing your intuition skills.

Improving Clairvoyance

Because lavender clears up both the crown chakra and the third eye, it directly helps improve your clairvoyance and ability to guide your path.

Not just that, but some believe that lavender smudging can fuel dream recognition, elevate vibrations during meditation, and unlock latent psychic abilities.
